Friends of Amasango is a UK-based Christian charity (registered no 1116268) working to support the learners at the Amasango Career School in Makhanda (Grahamstown) South Africa. The Friends fund facilities not provided by the provincial government and facilitate a volunteering programme at the school The money funds food, toiletries, basic clothing and in some cases shelter for the children. Friends of Amasango also provides support to Amasango learners who graduate into mainstream high schools. Volunteers visit Makhanda (Grahamstown) for varying periods of time, acting as classroom assisants.
Friends, members and trustees
Friends of Amasango is run by trustees who receive no remuneration and who are elected annually at the AGM from among the members. There is no formal subscription. Members are people who have shown their commitment in financial or other ways and who have been approved for membership by trustees. Trustees work closely with the school principal to ensure that their efforts remain aligned to the children’s needs. The charity adheres to UK Charity Commission guidelines and reporting requirements.
