Prizegiving 2017

The annual prize giving took place at the beginning of December 2017, this year in the Town Hall opposite the cathedral. The entire school and staff were present along with family members and friends who came to support the learners.

There were speeches from Mrs Ngamlana the principal, the chair of governors, a representative of the Department of Education, some in English, some in Xhosa and some in a mixture. Between each speech there was music from the marimba band and dancing.

Crafts were on sale along with pottery and sewn items, aprons, etc. It was encouraging to see how the standard of the sewing and rag-rugging had improved over the course of the year.

When it came to prize-giving each class was introduced by their form tutor, and each child received at least one prize, either for academic achievement and effort or for helpfulness and other praiseworthy attributes. Seven learners will progress to high school this year. Progression to high school is a tribute to the perseverance and determination shown by the learners.

Lunch was served to everyone at the end of the event: the students, their parents friends and supporters, governors, staff and the visitors from the UK.
